The Royal Oak at Poynings
There has been a 'Royal Oak' on this site since the 1880's. The present 'Royal Oak' is privately owned and operated by Paul Day and Lewis Robinson who aquired the business in 1996.
There is, of course, a team of loyal staff headed up by Inn Keeper and Host Alex Tipping who has been with us since June 2007. Alex is assisted by Matt Nixon.
Alex Tipping scooped one of the pub industry's top awards in March 2009. The 'PubChef Food Excellence Awards' attracted hundreds of entries from talented chefs and food pub managers nationwide and Alex took the 'Food Pub Manager of the Year' Award.
Our many regular visitors will have witnessed an ongoing program of refurbishment over the last couple of years. However, rest assured that now that we are coming towards the end of the various projects , we will not rest on our laurels!
We are well aware that a well designed, comfortable and spotlessly clean environment is just the starting point for your eating and drinking experience here at the Royal Oak. Of course, the food and drinks you enjoy and, in particular, the warm welcome and standard of service you encounter are even more important and it is here that we will continue to strive to ensure that you get the very best.
